Dr. Aisha
ElAlim's academic journey began in Sudan, where she earned her B.Sc. in
Economics from the University of Khartoum in Sudan. Motivated by a deep passion
for the field, she pursued further studies in Malaysia, obtaining an M.Sc. and
a Ph.D. in Economics from the International Islamic University of Malaysia
(IIUM).
Specializing
in healthcare economics, Dr. ElAlim's research zeroes in on private health
insurance, particularly emphasizing moral hazards and adverse selection within
the context of private health insurance markets. Her work has far-reaching
implications for developing sustainable and accessible healthcare systems.
Dr. ElAlim's
dedication to her field extends beyond academia. As a member of Sudan's
post-war reconstruction committee, she conducts
research to inform and guide rebuilding efforts. She aims to develop sustainable
strategies to address critical challenges
displaced populations face, particularly in health, education, and economic
development.
Prior to her appointment as the Acting Director of Arab Open University that same year, Dr. Aisha was designated as a Branch Course Coordinator(BCC) for ECO101 and ECO102 semester II 2022. She taught economic development, statistical methods, and both Micro- and Macroeconomic courses at her former job.
Since 2005, Dr. ElAlim has been a dedicated academic, sharing her extensive knowledge with future economists. She served as a lecturer in the Department of Economics at IIUM for many years, where she was known for her commitment to education and mentorship. She worked as an academic consultant at IDRISSI International Schools in Malaysia, June 2014 – Dec 2019. She joined the Arab Open University (AOU) in Sudan in 2021 and held a Program Coordinator for Business Studies position and Deputy Director for Academic Affairs in 2022. Currently she is the Acting Director for AOU Sudan.
